Café Lead Muir Wood National Monument and Muir Woods Trading Company was originally established as a national monument in 1908 by President Theodore Roosevelt. The park was named in honor of the revered naturalist John Muir, who declared the site was “the best tree‑lover’s monument that could possibly be found in all the forests of the world.” In the Trading Company we provide a place for visitors to stroll and select products that have been procured honoring the legacy of John Muir. Our products reflect the conservation, sustainability and ecological identity of the site.
Summary of Position Assist the Cafe Manager in training and supporting all Café staff to be proficient in preparing and serving food and/or beverages in a timely, friendly and efficient manner in the Company’s continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest service.
Responsibilities
Provide technical training and support to less experienced Café staff and model professionalism with guests and other employees at all times
Ensure accuracy of all guest orders by maintaining expert knowledge of Point‑of‑Sale (POS) system(s)
Possess thorough and accurate knowledge of menu items and specials
Be proficient and honest in cash handling and credit card transactions; assist Café Manager with timely and accurate sales and tips reports and cash/credit card receipts
Assist Café Manager with coaching and developing Café staff and maintain thorough knowledge of the Company’s Café operating policies and procedures
Maintain confidentiality at all times regarding other Café staff
Ensure alcoholic/non‑alcoholic beverages are served in accordance with Federal, State, Local regulations and Company procedures
Understand Company ISO (Environmental & Quality) management systems, Health and Safety standards, policies, goals and initiatives and meet the specific responsibilities within these areas
Model teamwork and help Café Management meet business objectives
Other duties per Duties Checklist and as requested
Position Requirements
Possess ServSafe Certification in accordance with Company policy
Excellent customer service and people skills
Must be able to work a variety of day, night, weekend, holiday shifts
Excellent communication skills and be a team player capable of encouraging others in a positive manner
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. frequently and handle tasks involving bending, twisting and squatting
Majority of shift will be spent on feet in a fast‑paced environment, in close proximity to other people
Education and Experience Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience: Minimum (1) year in a restaurant establishment; Resort/National Park Concession preferred
