About the Job

Sports Research is one of the largest privately held dietary supplement and health and wellness brands. Established in 1980 and made popular by our flagship product, Sweet Sweat, Sports Research remains a family‑owned company dedicated to providing the highest quality products to support every stage of the wellness journey. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for passionate leaders who want to be part of The Sport of Life

The Director of Logistics is responsible for end‑to‑end product flow – from inbound raw materials to outbound finished goods distribution – ensuring efficient, compliant, and customer‑focused operations. This role oversees warehousing, distribution center operations, transportation, inventory control, and 3PL relationships within the regulatory environment of dietary supplements and consumer packaged goods (CPG).

Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute the company’s logistics and distribution strategy aligned with growth, customer service levels, and regulatory requirements.

Lead the design, optimization, and scaling of the distribution network (DC locations, 3PL footprint, transportation modes).

Forecast infrastructure and labor needs to support retail, wholesale, and e‑commerce channels.

Distribution Operations

Oversee daily operations of distribution centers—internal or 3PL—including receiving, putaway, storage, picking, packing, and shipping.

Ensure outbound distribution meets OTIF (On Time In Full), retailer compliance, and e‑commerce delivery expectations.

Establish and maintain SOPs for all distribution processes, focusing on accuracy, speed, and safety.

Optimize distribution workflows and layout to support high‑volume CPG operations and seasonal demand.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives such as lean practices, labor efficiency, automation, and throughput enhancements.

Coordinate reverse logistics, including returns, QA holds, and disposal of expired or non‑conforming dietary supplement products.

Oversee compliance with retailer routing guides and performance scorecards (Amazon, Walmart, Target, UNFI, GNC, etc.).

Warehousing Management

Manage warehouse operations and 3PL facilities to ensure accurate inventory handling and efficient product flow.

Ensure proper environmental controls, lot storage conditions, and FIFO/FEFO practices for dietary supplements.

Conduct regular cycle counts, audits, and reconciliation to maintain inventory accuracy and avoid spoilage or expiration losses.

Direct all domestic and international transportation activities (parcel, LTL, FTL, ocean/air).

Negotiate carrier contracts, measure performance, and implement cost‑control strategies.

Ensure transportation compliance with DOT, FDA requirements, and customs regulations.

Optimize freight planning, mode selection, and routing to reduce cost per shipment.

Inventory Planning & Control

Oversee the accuracy of inventory across all warehouse and distribution locations.

Manage optimal stock levels, replenishment processes, and storage capacity to support high service levels.

Partner with Demand Planning to minimize stockouts and overstock risks.

Select, negotiate, and manage relationships with third‑party logistics providers.

Define and monitor SLAs for receiving, fulfillment, shipping accuracy, distribution speed, and compliance.

Drive quarterly business reviews and continuous improvement with 3PL partners.

Regulatory, Quality & Compliance

Ensure logistics and distribution processes comply with FDA, cGMP, FSMA, and specific dietary supplement handling standards.

Maintain traceability through lot tracking, documentation, and recall readiness.

Partner with QA to ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of raw materials and finished goods.

Systems & Technology

Oversee WMS, TMS, ERP, and other supply chain systems impacting distribution and logistics.

Lead system upgrades, automation, and integration initiatives to increase accuracy and visibility.

Develop dashboards and analytics to monitor productivity, costs, and service KPIs.

Own budgets for freight, warehousing, distribution operations, 3PL services, and packaging supplies.

Analyze and reduce logistics and distribution costs while improving service.

Report key KPIs such as OTIF, cost per order, distribution throughput, inventory turns, and logistics spend.

Qualifications Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, or related field; MBA preferred.

8–12+ years of logistics/distribution experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role.

Experience in dietary supplements, food/beverage, CPG, or regulated consumer goods required.

Proven success managing 3PLs, high‑volume distribution centers, and multi‑channel fulfillment.

Technical & Regulatory Skills

Proficiency in ERP/WMS/TMS systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Manhattan).

Strong understanding of FDA/cGMP/FSMA requirements for supplement handling.

Experience with retailer compliance, EDI, and routing guide adherence.
