Clinical Research Assistant – Boston VA Research Institute

Boston-based epidemiology and biomedical research organization focused on remote physical activity promotion and Tai Chi interventions for patients with COPD and/or heart failure at the VA Boston Healthcare System (West Roxbury campus).
Job Overview The Research Assistant supports all aspects of the research project(s), including technical, clinical, and administrative duties such as recruitment and screening of research participants, conducting outcome testing, and performing clinical assessments in line with the study protocol(s).
The role requires meticulous data collection, reliable execution of study tasks, and serves as the focal point for interactions with participants.
Training is provided in study techniques and assessment methods.
There is an opportunity to participate in writing abstracts, research papers, and delivering scientific presentations, gaining comprehensive experience in study design, implementation, data collection, regulatory oversight, and analysis within a clinical hospital setting.
Responsibilities
Manage participant processing and flow from recruitment, informed consent, enrollment, and follow‑up assessments.
Conduct surveys in‑person and virtually using standardized instruments or tools specified in the protocol.
Manage research data in REDCap per protocol and SOPs.
Review and verify data to ensure proper tracking, storage, and security.
Compile, prepare, and assist in developing reports for internal and external oversight.
Maintain data integrity and confidentiality of protected health information.
Attend all study‑related meetings.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum BA or BSc in biological, social, or public health sciences (preferred).
Previous research or clinical experience with human subjects (preferred, not required).
Superior interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, REDCap, and video conferencing platforms such as Zoom.
Preferred candidates seek a 2‑year commitment or longer.
Residency Requirement:
Employee must be a resident of Massachusetts upon start date.
Work Authorization:
No sponsorship or visa support available.
Physical Demands Frequent sitting for prolonged periods, standing, walking, using hands and reaching with arms; occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
Work Hours & Travel Full‑time: 40 hours per week; no travel expected.
Background Checks Required background check at hire and periodic reappointment.
