Base pay range $80,000.00/yr - $90,000.00/yr

Job Summary The Infection Prevention Nurse is responsible for overseeing the Infection Control Program. The role systematically collects and assesses data in collaboration with the team to provide therapeutic, evidence‑based care. The nurse works collaboratively with all disciplines to develop plans of care and documents progress toward defined outcomes. The position maintains compliance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, regulations, and facility policies.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure that all infection control procedures are followed in accordance with established policies.

Maintain a current, accurate, and updated infection log.

Oversee the Antibiotic Stewardship Program and track antibiotic usage.

Ensure criteria is followed through completion of the infection report form.

Track and trend transmission‑based precautions and antibiotic usage.

Conduct daily observations of infection control processes across all departments.

Perform active surveillance and provide education on infection control practices on all shifts.

Assist nursing leadership in completing competencies for staff on infection control practices.

Evaluate and assess all new and re‑admissions for active infections.

Ensure compliance of antibiotic tracking forms while residents are on antibiotics.

Ensure care plans related to infection control are completed and updated.

Provide in‑service education to staff on the Infection Control Program.

Assist with other managerial aspects of the Nursing Department as part of a collaborative team.

Follow current established standards of nursing practices and assist staff with implementation of best practices.

Collaborate with non‑nursing departments on infection control awareness.

Work with the facility to ensure the XDRO registry is checked prior to admissions and readmissions.

Participate in staff meetings, QA meetings, team meetings, in‑services, and other meetings as requested.

Maintain a professional, cooperative relationship among facility staff through communication, cooperation, and teamwork.

Collaborate with the Director of Nursing in the planning, coordination, and implementation of the Infection Control Program.

Educate patients, families, or responsible parties about the facility infection control program and practices.

Directly collaborate with employees to train staff and promote knowledge related to Infection Control programs and services.

Identify problems, develop solutions, and implement them with the assistance of the Director of Nursing.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduate of a four‑year college with one year’s experience in the health care or long‑term care field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Current, unencumbered RN or LPN license in the state(s) where the facility(s) are located.

Ability to work scheduled hours, including some weekends.

Completed an approved Infection Preventionist course within 30 days after employment.

Knowledge of short‑term practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to long‑term care.

Current CPR certificate or ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.

Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures.

Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

Leadership and supervisory ability to create a positive working atmosphere.

Committed to improving the quality of life for residents and able to work in a resident‑centered team environment.

Strong interpersonal skills and advanced customer service skills.

Tactful dealing with patients, families, hospital and facility personnel, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.

Willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.

Physical Requirements

Move intermittently throughout the workday.

Coping with mental and emotional stress associated with the position.

Maintain adequate sight/hearing, with or without prosthetics, to meet position requirements.

Be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.

Relate well and work with ill, disabled, elderly, or emotionally upset individuals.

Comply with facility COVID‑19 testing requirements.

Stand or walk for prolonged periods.

Lift, push, pull, or move equipment and supplies exceeding 50 lbs throughout the day.

Be subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, including HIV, AIDS, and Hepatitis B viruses.
