Salary: 82k-87k (commensurate with experience) Full-Time 7am-3pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday

Position Purpose Responsible for the overall management of all the Infection Control Program.

Understands and adheres to Resident Rights at all times.

Maintains confidentiality of all resident care information.

Reports all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property.

Responds constructively to changes and/or problems which may arise on the job to ensure that stress is dealt with effectively.

Safety & Sanitation

Remains alert at all times, ensuring SSL and its residents are safe and secure.

Actively participates in the SSL Safety Program by direct service on the Safety Committee, or by observing and reporting unsafe conditions to supervisor and by performing all assigned duties with proper body mechanics.

Attends In-Service sessions as required by facility and supervisor.

Remains task oriented while on the job, with no allowance for horseplay or otherwise distracting oneself or others from the important task(s) of caring for residents.

Primary Job Duties

Effectively develops infection prevention plans according to current infection control protocols.

Directs the overall management of the infection control program.

Thoroughly explains to resident, family and care team infection prevention rationale and implements protocols and monitors results of care delivered.

Assigns responsibility for direct resident care to the nursing staff and ensures that the care is rendered according to the facility’s policies and procedures.

Ensures that the resident’s care plan correctly depicts the resident’s condition and ensures that the plan of care is followed for each resident.

Responsible for the provision of the infection control program to residents with updates to the clinical team.

Responsible for all aspects of the respiratory program including, but not limited to fit testing, records management, program monitoring.

Coordinates and manages vaccination clinics as required or needed.

Involves the resident, family and other health team members in the care plan process and informs them of the goals that need to be attained.

Completes required record keeping upon the resident admission, discharge, transfer, charts and documents per facility policy.

Serves as a resource to the clinical team with regards to infection control.

Ensures that all documentation is legible and accurately reflects the condition of the residents and is completed according to policies and procedures.

Communicates all pertinent changes in infection control conditions to the attending physician and others on the team as needed.

Instructs, guides, and takes responsibility for the infection control program.

Responds to challenges, changes, and direction with a positive and supportive attitude.

Acts as a role model for others in the department as someone to look to for insight if assistance is needed for the care of the resident.

Continues to update knowledge and nursing skills through self‑study, in‑services, and professional organizations to ensure optimum levels of skill.

Performs and coordinates the process of surveillance and tracking to identify any infections or adverse outcomes to ensure resident's health and safety.

Serves as a resource in all infection prevention matters.

Participates in the IDPH Survey process as needed.

Demonstrates the ability to assess a situation from an infection prevention perspective and recommends appropriate action within scope of responsibility to ensure safe and quality Care.

Responsible in managing the antibiotic stewardship program.

Performs and coordinates the process of surveillance to identify the appropriate use of antibiotics.

Educates families, staff and residents on infection prevention practices including antibiotic use.

Implements a structured education program that meets all regulatory requirements for nursing staff.

Participates in resident quality meetings, such QAPI meetings.

Participates in weekend rotation.

Reviews and ensures all policies are up to date and in keeping with best practices in the industry.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

RN/LPN license in good standing required.

CDC Infection Preventionist Certification or completion of certification prior to hire date.

Minimum of 1 year experience in infection prevention.

Minimum of 1 year experience providing supervision.

Minimum 1 year experience in Long Term Care.

Minimum of 1 year experience developing and delivering training/in‑services.
