Who We Are Founded in 1930, Borger Management (now Borger Residential) has evolved to become one of the largest property management firms in DC, now managing more than 6000 units and 2 million square feet of commercial space throughout the DC Metro Area, and it continues to grow. In January 2023, Borger joined forces with The Donohoe Companies, Inc. and became Donohoe’s sixth operating division.

Overview The Senior Property Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the financial accounting and reporting functions for an assigned complex portfolio of properties. The Senior Property Accountant is also responsible for reconciling property bank accounts, subsidiary ledgers and control accounts, preparing annual budget data, annual tax or audit work‑papers, and ensuring all required regulatory/jurisdictional filings are completed. The position requires a detail‑oriented individual with excellent accounting and analytical skills, strong time management and organizational skills, exemplary communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a team and independently.

Key Responsibilities Include

Review property income and expenses on a monthly basis and communicate discrepancies, unusual variances, or questions to the attention of the Property Manager and Management.

Review monthly operating, security deposit and reserve bank statements and reconciliations for assigned properties and agree to respective cash balances in the general ledger.

Monitor expenses and property investments.

Prepare requested financial reports (i.e. owner requests, special reporting requirements) for properties.

Prepare and remit property’s year‑end tax and audit work‑papers and supporting documentation for external CPA firm review.

Assist property auditors in preparing year‑end audits and other required reports.

Work with Management to stabilize cash situations for financially troubled properties.

Coordinate funding of escrow and reserve accounts with the VP of Accounting.

Qualifications To be successful in this position, you should have at least two years of property accountant experience for the Property Accountant role or at least four years of property accountant experience for a Sr. Property Accountant role. A CPA designation is highly desirable for the Sr. role. A Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Accounting or Finance is required. Must have prior experience working with Property Management software systems, including but not limited to MRI and Yardi, AvidxChange and/or Nexus payables, and Microsoft Office programs with a strong proficiency in Excel. Strong time‑management and communication skills required. Must be able to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
