Job Overview Under general supervision, performs quantitative and qualitative laboratory tests on patient specimens according to standard laboratory formulas and procedures. Analyzes test results, prepares samples for testing, calculates findings and maintains records. Determines validity of solutions, reagents, media stains and other materials used in the testing process. Processes all types of laboratory specimens, reviews and reports results, performs operational duties, maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment, and acts as a resource to other laboratory personnel.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an approved college or university or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent as defined by CLIA regulations.
Prefer 6 months to 1 year experience as a medical laboratory technologist or clinical laboratory scientist in an acute‑care facility.
Required: Registered or registry eligible with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or CSMLS) within 12 months of hire. Equivalency evaluation by ECE, NACES or AICE for non‑US trained personnel must be completed within 30 days of hire. Licensure as required by State.
Skills Required
Analytical ability to interpret and analyze test results.
Interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with all areas of the physician office.
Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate various types of laboratory equipment.
Visual acuity to closely examine specimens.
Facility Description DMC University Laboratories (DMCUL) is a regional, integrated laboratory system that provides services to the eight hospitals of Detroit Medical Center. It comprises Core Laboratories, Specialty Laboratories, two rapid‑response hospital laboratories, Centralized Stat Lab, Centralized Blood Bank Lab, and a full‑service outreach infrastructure. The service area covers the entire Southeast Michigan market, offering over 1,000 tests with less than 1 % sent to outside reference laboratories.
