Senior Electrical & Instrumentation Designer - Primoris Engineering
Primoris Engineering is hiring a Senior E&I Designer in Houston. Bring your expertise to a collaborative team where you’ll work on meaningful projects and shape innovative solutions. In this role you’ll take ownership of complex design initiatives, guiding projects from concept to completion, while mentoring emerging talent and serving as the go-to expert for design decisions that make an impact.
Key Responsibilities
Design
Lead the preparation of electrical and instrumentation design packages including drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and layouts.
Ensure designs meet project specifications, codes and standards (NEC, IEC, ISA, IEEE, etc.).
Review and approve design documents prepared by team members.
Project Execution
Coordinate with project managers, engineers and other disciplines to ensure seamless integration of E&I systems.
Manage design schedules, deliverables and resource allocation.
Support procurement by preparing material take-offs, specifications and vendor data reviews.
Technical Expertise
Develop and maintain instrument indexes, cable schedules and loop diagrams.
Provide guidance on control systems architecture, PLC/DCS interfaces and field instrumentation selection.
Ensure proper grounding, lighting and power distribution design for facilities.
Team Development
Mentor and train junior designers and drafters, fostering technical growth and accountability.
Promote best practices in CAD tools.
Drive continuous improvement in design workflows and standards.
Quality & Compliance
Participate in design reviews and implement corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with safety standards, client requirements and regulatory guidelines.
Support construction and commissioning teams with design clarifications and field changes.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in electrical and instrumentation design.
Proficiency in CAD software and design tools (AutoCAD, CADWorx, Elecdes Design Suite).
Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards (NEC, IEC, ISA, IEEE).
Excellent communication, leadership and organizational skills.
Experience in EPC projects, industrial facilities or oil & gas/petrochemical sectors highly desirable.
