Senior Structural Engineer (Waterfront, Chesapeake)
Senior Structural Engineer will support ports and maritime structural design projects, applying deep technical expertise in marine structures and structural codes to deliver complex, high-impact engineering solutions. This role blends hands‑on design leadership with collaboration across national project teams, contributing to client relationships, proposal development, field inspections, and overall project delivery excellence.

Key Responsibilities
Design & Technical Leadership
Lead structural design from conceptual phase through completion for marine structures including piers, wharfs, bulkheads, fender systems, and related infrastructure.
Adapt structural plans based on budgets, design factors, and client needs while ensuring high-quality engineering output.
Apply expert knowledge of commonly used structural concepts, practices, codes, and procedures.
Develop non-standard design solutions for complex engineering challenges.
Perform quality reviews of production drawings and ensure QA/QC standards are met.
Project Execution & Management
Participate in development of project fees, schedules, scopes, and staffing plans.
Manage construction planning and change orders effectively.
Provide leadership and guidance to engineering team members; mentor less experienced engineers.
Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
Support and participate in construction administration including coordination with field personnel, issue resolution, inspections, testing, and calculations.
Client Engagement & Business Development
Build effective relationships with clients, contractors, port authorities, shipyards, shipping lines, and terminal operators.
Lead development of cost proposals and qualification statements to support business growth.
Participate in sales and marketing initiatives and identify key pursuits.
Ensure customer satisfaction goals are consistently met.
Field & Safety Responsibilities
Lead field inspections, installations, and analyses for both public and private clients.
Ensure compliance with company and site-specific safety policies.
Perform other assigned duties while maintaining adherence to all company standards.
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or related engineering technology from an ABET-accredited program, FE exam completion, PE license, and minimum 7 years of structural engineering experience.
— OR — Master’s degree in Structural Engineering and 6 years of experience.
Experience leading design of large projects and delegating tasks to team members.
EPC (Engineer Procure Construct) project experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of structural design codes (IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE‑7).
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated critical‑thinking, problem‑solving ability, and strong organizational skills.
Ability to perform detailed quality reviews and travel as required.
Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
Required Skills
Marine/waterfront structural design expertise
Strong knowledge of structural codes (IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE‑7)
Leadership of complex engineering projects
Preferred Skills
EPC project experience
Field inspection and construction administration familiarity
