Our global EPC Firm client is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Chesapeake, VA. This role will serve as a key contributor on project teams, delivering world‑class civil and structural designs for new construction, modifications, and redevelopment projects. The focus will be on marine and waterfront structures, including piers, wharfs, bulkheads, fender systems, and related infrastructure.

The Civil/Structural Engineer will collaborate with senior engineers while balancing technical requirements, design integrity, project budgets, and client needs. This role provides an excellent long‑term career path with the opportunity to grow into increasingly technical and leadership responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Support and collaborate with Senior Civil/Structural Engineers throughout all phases of design— from conceptual planning through final design completion.

Design and analyze civil/structural components for a variety of waterfront and structural projects.

Apply advanced engineering concepts, principles, codes, and practices to produce high‑quality designs.

Research, gather, and compile project‑related data, studies, and reports.

Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and technical documents.

Participate in or lead client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration activities.

Perform and oversee field inspections, measurements, assessments, and calculations.

Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.

Deliver work that complies with company standards, engineering best practices, and applicable policies.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline from an

ABET‑accredited program ; or

Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology from an ABET‑accredited program

plus

successful completion of the

Fundamentals of Engineering (FE)

exam.

3‑5 years

of civil/structural engineering experience, preferably within a consulting or marine/waterfront environment.

Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT)

certification required.

Professional Engineer (PE)

license strongly preferred or ability to obtain within one year.

Proficiency with engineering tools such as

AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, Revit/BIM, RISA‑3D , and other civil/structural analysis programs.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated analytical, organizational, problem‑solving, and independent work capabilities.

Proven ability to mentor junior team members and lead technical tasks.

Strong attention to detail and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
