Position Summary The Surgical Technologist at the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) plays a vital role in supporting safe and efficient outpatient surgical care by preparing the operating room, anticipating surgeons’ needs, and maintaining a sterile, safe environment for patients and the perioperative team. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented technician who enjoys a fast-paced, scheduled case environment, strong teamwork, and building close working relationships with surgeons, anesthesia, and nursing staff within an academic medical center setting.
Unit Overview (ASC)
Outpatient, procedure-focused environment prioritizing efficiency, patient satisfaction, and safety.
Collaborative team of surgeons, anesthesia providers, RNs, technicians, and support staff.
Emphasis on standardized workflows, safety checklists, and evidence-based practices.
Main Responsibilities
Prepare the operating room for procedures, verifying case carts and setting up supplies.
Maintain aseptic technique and patient safety protocols.
Serve as the scrub technologist, anticipating needs, passing instruments, and handling specimens.
Assist with patient positioning and operate basic OR equipment.
Participate in room turnover and manage supplies.
Document information and engage in quality and safety initiatives.
Exhibit professional behavior and strong communication with the care team.

Qualifications Required
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
Current BLS certification.
Basic knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instruments, and OR safety standards.
Strong communication skills for effective teamwork.
Preferred
Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST).
At least 1 year of experience in an operating room or ASC.
Experience with various surgical specialties.
Prior work in an academic medical center.
