Job Description Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is looking for our next Electronic Systems Development Director to direct vehicle design projects relating to electronic systems and components, establish innovative technologies for research, and support Hyundai electronics quality. In this role, you will spearhead cost savings initiatives, manage engineering staff at all levels (senior manager to individual contributor), and report on department activities and results to company leadership and outside organizations such as the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Association (IIHSA).
You will also ensure system integration, collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve high-performing, safe, and innovative electrical solutions that align with company goals and regulatory standards.
What You Will Do
Develop and support Electronic Systems Development Department vision, mission, annual work plan, and budget. Create goals and objectives for all direct reports in compliance with organizational plans. Assign daily tasks and project plans in compliance with North American roles.
Oversee and direct managers and engineers in vehicle design projects related to automotive electronic engineering, solving complex design issues, market adaptability, and creating concept designs. Establish innovative technologies for research, support Hyundai Motor Group field quality, cost savings initiatives, and technology roadmaps.
Conduct design reviews with engineers to evaluate component and system designs, review countermeasure proposals, brainstorm solutions for open issues, review implementation timing, and review progress on work plans.
Review technical and operational projects with engineering staff. Establish risk assessment and risk reduction initiatives to meet timing milestones. Provide technical direction and guidance.
Support Hyundai Motor Company requests for engineering studies, competitive benchmarking, and market research for North American customers.
Publish regular Electronics Systems Development Reports summarizing weekly activities and planned activities.
Create technical reports for presentation to upper management, including Hyundai & Kia sales and marketing business units, Korea R&D, local manufacturing, and external organizations such as NHTSA.
Oversee and manage infotainment and electronic development activities in navigation, connected car, validations, cybersecurity, electric design, mobile app, server, etc.
Participate in weekly meetings with HATCI Executive Management.
Interface with other departments such as Vehicle Evaluation, Regulation & Certification, and Product Planning to provide support in testing, design input, vehicle clinics, etc.
Assist in planning and monitoring of department budget.
Perform administrative functions such as purchasing requests, timecard, vacation requests, travel requests, etc.
Perform additional projects as assigned.
What You Will Bring to the Role
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field required.
Master’s degree preferred.
8 years’ experience in engineering management.
10 years’ experience in design and release of electric-related structures and components, solving design problems using sound engineering principles.
5 years’ experience in software development.
Experience with software architecture development for multi-control and cross-functional systems.
Experience with wired/wireless communication development.
Basic knowledge of programming languages and embedded OS.
Understanding of embedded OS-based software architecture and application operations.
Knowledge of server development and maintenance.
Experience in executing scalable, reliable, and secure software solutions.
Analog/Digital circuit design and analysis skills using systems such as SOC, power control, generic IC, linear/non-linear components, etc.
Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
