Position Duties San José Mineta International Airport (SJC) is seeking a skilled SecOps Engineer to support the Airport Technical Services (ATS) team. The role involves safeguarding critical systems, deploying security defense technologies, managing cybersecurity infrastructure, responding to incidents, and overseeing Attack Surface Management and Compliance Management. The engineer will partner cross‑functionally with the City of San José’s Cybersecurity Office, the Airport’s Applications Support Team, Infrastructure Support Team, and system stakeholders to build and improve the Airport’s cybersecurity strategy and ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.

Design, build, and operate infrastructure security solutions and platforms.

Participate in the design, build, and maintenance of network infrastructure emphasizing security controls.

Administrate and expand the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platform, including expanded cyber security functionality.

Develop schemes and technology to secure and monitor new technologies as they are onboarded.

Apply log analysis skills to identify and investigate security incidents in application environments.

Create resources, documentation, and training materials to assist teams in securing their environments effectively.

Highly Desirable Qualifications

Solid experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting heterogeneous Windows and Linux environments, including recommended security and hardening procedures.

Experience with security tools and technologies (e.g., SIEM, IDS/IPS, vulnerability scanners).

Strong understanding of cryptographic concepts, standards, and tools (X.509, PKI token‑based authentication, PKI‑based encryption of communications) and related protocols (SSL/TLS, KMIP, PKCS#11).

Strong understanding of networking technologies, OSI network layers, TCP/IP, and familiarity with WAF, proxy/load balancers, IDS/IPS components.

Salary Information Salary range: $141,894.48 – $172,885.44 annually. The final candidate’s qualifications and experience will determine the exact salary. Employees in this classification also receive approximately five percent (5%) ongoing non‑pensionable compensation pay.

Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field.

Four (4) years of progressively responsible professional or journey‑level experience, with at least two (2) years of lead technical work in development, implementation, and maintenance of computer systems, or application development/support.

Acceptable Substitution

Additional years of directly related experience may be substituted for education on a year‑for‑year basis.

Completion of a Master’s Degree in a relevant field may be substituted for one (1) year of the required two (2) years of experience.

Required Licensing

Possession of a valid State of California driver license may be required.
