Overview The Senior Data Scientist at ComEd will apply the scientific method to extract knowledge and insights from a variety of data, including time‑series from smart meters, structured relational data, and unstructured text. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders—including data engineers, project managers, and business units—to turn data into critical information that informs decision making.
Primary Duties
Develop key predictive models that enhance customer experience, operating performance, and safety best practices.
Recommend data sampling techniques, collection, and cleaning specifications, applying missing data treatments as needed.
Analyze data using advanced analytics techniques (Python, R, Scala, Spark, Hadoop) to support process improvement.
Access, enrich, and analyze data from various company systems and data warehouses, building, modifying, and maintaining high‑performance computing systems.
Provide expert data and analytics support to multiple business units.
Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into data‑science projects, working with other analytic teams across Exelon on big‑data techniques.
Job Scope
Support strategic planning of business units with machine‑learning insights.
Advise key stakeholders on findings and recommend courses of action to improve operations.
Deliver analytics that position the company for the future.
Educate stakeholders through internal presentations, workshops, and publications.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Finance, Operations Research, Physics, Statistics, or related field).
4‑7 years of experience developing hypotheses, applying machine‑learning algorithms, validating results with multi‑terabyte datasets, and extracting actionable insights.
Strong knowledge in at least two of: machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistical modeling, data mining, information retrieval, data visualization.
Experience deploying predictive analytics projects using Python, R, Scala, or similar in an open‑source, Unix‑based environment.
Ability to translate analysis into clear, actionable recommendations with strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s or PhD in a quantitative discipline.
Experience with smart‑meter, billing, or outage‑management data and the full data‑science lifecycle.
Solid understanding of machine‑learning theory, statistics, probability, algorithms, and optimization.
Expert coding (Python, R, Scala, SQL) and proficiency with database management of large datasets.
Strong presentation and time‑management skills to translate executive guidance into analytics.
