includes contributing to projects on highways, bridges, and multimodal transportation systems, with opportunities to engage in design analyses, traffic studies, and engineering coordination. The ITS Traffic Team typically works on design alternative analyses, engineering studies, traffic analyses, safety studies, travel demand modeling, and design of traffic signals, signing, pavement markings, and lighting. Collaboration with colleagues across highway, bridge, stormwater, and utility design is essential. The successful candidate should be able to plan, conduct, and coordinate traffic engineering work, prepare reports, plans, and specifications for design projects, and monitor multiple project schedules and budgets. In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: Prepare and direct traffic analysis and studies, including safety studies, and complete design and plan preparation of traffic signal and interconnect drawings. Plan and develop engineering projects related to unique or controversial problems; define scope, investigate problems, and develop novel concepts and approaches. Work independently, as a team member or lead, to execute specific phases or aspects of projects; coordinate responsibilities with the team and/or team leader. Review project design for general compliance with engineering principles, company standards, and client contract requirements. Coordinate activities related to technical developments, scheduling, and manpower; resolve engineering design problems. Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases. Demonstrate team management, develop project scope of work, estimate manpower needs, prepare CPM schedules, and track project progress. Ensure the project is completed within the allocated time and budget. Mentor entry-level engineers. Maintain liaison with internal and external stakeholders on technical matters. Plan and conduct project meetings; ensure quality control and quality assurance. Interpret contract changes and advise management on needed changes. Maintain professional and technical skills through ongoing education and professional engagement. Assist in preparation of business proposals.

Education | Experience

What You'll Bring To Our Firm Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university. Minimum of 10 years of professional experience within traffic and/or highway engineering. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Kansas or Missouri with a B.S. in Civil Engineering; other state licenses may be acceptable with licensure in other Midwest states as needed. Experience with KDOT or MoDOT and other local transportation agencies. Experience with traffic and safety analysis; knowledge of MUTCD and Highway Capacity Manual. Experience with traffic simulation software (Synchro, HCS, Sidra, or VISSIM). Experience with design of traffic control elements such as plans, specifications, and estimates for traffic signals, roadway signing, pavement markings, and work-zone maintenance of traffic plans (preferred). Proficiency with MicroStation CAD and MS Office; OpenRoads Designer (preferred). Strong communication skills; ability to present information to management and diverse audiences. Strong analytical ability and problem-solving skills; ability to apply mathematical concepts and interpret complex instructions. Experience with Microsoft Excel and other engineering software; collaborative and inclusive problem-solving mindset. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.

Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) preferred.

Compensation

The salary range for this role is

$125,000 - $165,000 . Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
