Job Description American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a night shift position requiring a current CA RN license and strong critical care experience.
Responsibilities
Work in a 20-bed ICU and CCU within an acute care hospital setting
Patient population includes neuro surgery (craniotomies, carotids, ventriculostomies, ICP monitoring), open heart, post-caths, impellas, and balloon pumps
Drips commonly managed include vasoactive agents, levophed, norepinephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, propofol, and fentanyl
Ventilator management required; no CRRT or ECMO
Nurses are responsible for cardiac monitoring and must read their own strips using Phillips monitors
Cerner EMR is used; experience preferred
Night shifts (7p-7a), with every other weekend required
Floating required, including to IMCU (stepdown) or Observation units
Self-scheduling is offered but not always guaranteed
Nurses will participate in the care of complex surgical and cardiac patients, including monitoring, drips, and advanced interventions
Orientation includes three unit‑specific shifts
Navy scrubs are required
Travelers may be required to work one major and one minor holiday with perm staff rotation
No IV team support; nurse aides present for select duties (blood draws, EKGs, tech duties)
Hospitalist or intensivist present in‑house; on‑call after hours
Pharmacy and respiratory therapy available 24/7
First‑time travelers may be considered
Candidates cannot have been directly employed by the affiliated health system within the past year
Requirements
Active CA RN license required at the time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
Minimum 3 years of ICU experience required
Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS; PALS preferred
Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years
Experience with neuro and cardiac ICU patients preferred
Cerner EMR experience preferred
Must provide a valid driver’s license for consideration
