Qumis is a venture-backed vertical AI startup transforming the commercial insurance industry. We have significant venture capital backing from top tier investors and are in active scaling mode. We are looking for a Chief of Staff to act as the "Operational Engine" for the CEO. This is not an executive assistant role. It is a high-impact, high-autonomy leadership role designed for an ambitious operator who wants to learn how to build a company from the inside out. You will be the force multiplier that allows the CEO to focus on Product and Strategy while you ensure the business runs with precision, speed, and financial discipline. Tour of Duty
Year 1: You are a generalist operator, fixing broken processes, obtaining SOC 2 compliance, managing finance, and curating our office culture. Year 2: You will likely double down on a specific functional area (e.g., RevOps, Product, or Finance) or prepare to spin out and start your own company with our support. Responsibilities and Expectations
Business Operations & Financial Hygiene (The "Machine") Finance: You are the bridge between the CEO and our finance vendors. You help manage the budget, oversee AR/AP, and ensure our financial model reflects reality. Revenue Operations (RevOps): You own the "Quote-to-Cash" cycle. You ensure invoices are sent, payments are collected, and our CRM data is impeccable. You catch revenue leakage before it happens. Compliance & Risk: You will project manage our SOC 2 audits, coordinating between engineering and auditors to get us certified without slowing down product velocity. Strategic Alignment (The "Rhythm") Operating Cadence: You run the weekly leadership meetings and weekly All-Hands. You ensure agendas are strategic, decisions are recorded, and action items are chased. OKR Implementation: You help the CEO deploy and track company-wide Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), ensuring Product, Sales, and Engineering are aligned on the quarter’s goals. Board & Investor Relations: You assist in preparing Board Decks and monthly investor updates, synthesizing complex data into a clear narrative of our growth. People, Culture & Environment (The "Vibe") Office & Experience: You will manage our Chicago HQ, ensuring it feels like a high-performance environment (not just a room with desks). You own the "vibe," from furniture upgrades to stocking the kitchen with quality goods. Recruiting Ops: You are the gatekeeper for key hires. You manage recruitment agencies, screen candidates, and drive the interview process to ensure we only hire the top 1%. Events: You plan and execute team offsites and dinners that build genuine connection, setting the standard for our internal culture. The "High-Fidelity" Generalist: You have 4–7 years of experience in high-rigor environments (Management Consulting, Investment Banking, or Series A/B Tech Ops). Open to lawyers looking to transition out of practice. Low Ego / High Agency: You are willing to negotiate a complex vendor contract at 9 AM and reorganize the office seating chart at 10 AM. You don't say "that's not my job"—you say "I handled it." Data-Fluent: You are comfortable in Excel/Sheets. You can build a basic model, reconcile an invoice, and spot errors in a sales report. Chicago-Based: You understand that culture happens in person. You are excited to be in our Chicago office to drive the energy of the team. Access: You will work directly with the Founder/CEO (former attorney turned founder) and see exactly how a VC-backed company is built from the inside. Impact: You aren't a cog in a machine. You are building the machine. Upside: Meaningful equity in a high growth venture capital backed company with a clear path to Series A and beyond. Seniority Level
