Team / Department You will join Fortastra’s Engineering Division, responsible for the design, development, and test of flight systems across our autonomous spacecraft portfolio.

Role We are seeking an experienced

Avionics Integration Engineer

to join our growing team in Torrance, CA. This is a hands‑on, onsite position (no hybrid or remote option). You will work directly with multidisciplinary engineering teams to design, integrate, and validate flight systems supporting proximity operations, autonomous maneuvering, and mission‑critical aerospace applications.

Key Responsibilities

Lead hardware/software integration for spacecraft avionics subsystems including flight computers, sensor packages, and communication modules.

Develop and maintain interface control documents (ICDs) and ensure seamless integration between avionics, GNC, and power systems.

Design and execute verification and validation plans for embedded and networked avionics components.

Collaborate with software, mechanical, and electrical teams to troubleshoot and optimize system‑level performance.

Conduct bench and environmental testing of integrated avionics hardware prior to flight qualification.

Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.

5+ years of experience in avionics systems development, hardware/software integration, and test.

Proficiency with embedded systems, serial buses (CAN, SPI, I2C), and data acquisition systems.

Experience with C/C++, Python, and Linux‑based development environments.

Strong understanding of system bring‑up, configuration management, and verification processes.

Experience with radiation‑tolerant hardware and fault‑tolerant architectures.

Familiarity with flight software frameworks such as cFS or custom RTOS implementations.

Hands‑on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and avionics test equipment.

Knowledge of space or defense program requirements (MIL‑STD‑1553, DO‑160, ECSS).

Work is onsite; remote or hybrid arrangements will not be considered.

U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain or have an active TS/SCI clearance.
