Position Summary The Principal Engineer R&D is responsible for developing new material technologies (polymers & additives) and products for Sealed Air.

Responsibilities

Work with R&D and business leaders to identify key material technology gaps and opportunities associated with business division innovation pipelines; execute a strategy to fill material technology gaps.

Ensure the timely completion of material technology and product development projects with priorities established and agreed upon with R&D leadership.

Develop and commercialize products in support of new business development opportunities.

Position will require travel in support of Sealed Air production facilities and at customer sites.

Effectively lead projects, ensuring the right technical resources are utilized and projects are completed in an agreed‑upon timeframe.

Collaborate with Sealed Air’s business divisions and other functional groups to achieve project objectives.

Identify and assess new material technologies relative to their viability, ability to drive business growth, and the resources required to fully develop and commercialize.

Track and utilize knowledge of competitive activities related to material technologies.

Establish and maintain collaborative relationships in industry and academia relative to new material technologies.

Stay at the forefront of technology to maintain competitiveness.

Personal safety and the safety of others; maintain a safe and incident‑free working environment.

Basic Qualifications

B.S./M.S./Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or in Polymer Science & Engineering.

B.S./M.S. Minimum 8–10 years of experience in product development with extrusion of plastics or polymers.

Ph.D. minimum 5 years of experience in product development with extrusion of plastics or polymers.

Additional Qualifications

Advanced degree preferred: MS or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or in Polymer Science & Engineering.

Demonstrated proficiency in extrusion, polymers, polymer chemistry, and materials science and their interactions with manufacturing processes and customer use.

Demonstrate leadership of identification and valuation of polymers and additives and translating ideas into significant commercial success.

Demonstrate creativity and imaginative solutions to complex problems.

Possesses excellent interpersonal skills to influence company and business strategy and decisions, to motivate high performance and negotiate win‑win scenarios.

Effectively communicates verbally and in writing to affect decision making and keep the organization informed. Ability to author technical reports and to make presentations to various internal groups within Sealed Air.

Able to work globally with appropriate sensitivities to cultures, businesses, etc.

Business acumen and ability to collaborate effectively across functions, regions, and business divisions to drive results and ensure goal delivery.

Able to make priority decisions and provide clear focus to work teams.

Establishes clear priorities and is enthusiastic about delivering accurate and timely results that add value.
