Security Officer
Security Officer role at Sonesta International Hotels.
Job Description Summary The Security Officer is responsible for the safety and security of all guests, employees, and visitors of the hotel. They protect hotel assets, enforce hotel security policies and procedures in accordance with Sonesta Hotels International corporate guidelines, and ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
The Security Officer also performs hotel security functions, including fire prevention, safety checks, investigations, and resolution of guest and employee complaints regarding safety and security matters.
Duties and Responsibilities
Deliver on the promise of Sonesta Service in all interactions with guests and clients, managing according to the Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards and instilling a passion for customer service in all associates.
Perform normal hotel security functions, including fire prevention and safety checks.
Investigate thefts, accidents, and other incidents occurring on the property.
Prevent losses of company and guest property due to theft, burglary, pilferage, and other criminal activity.
Ensure a safe and tranquil environment for guests and employees.
Assist guests and colleagues on all security and safety related enquiries.
Resolve guest and employee complaints regarding safety and security matters.
Conduct floor patrols during tour of duty, checking doors, windows, and securing facilities during non-operating hours.
Monitor personnel activities on the premises to detect and counter theft and other criminal activities.
Complete associate forms and reports related to any accidents or issues within the premises.
Immediately report hotel deficiencies to appropriate departments for repair.
Perform other work‑related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Requirements
One year of security experience preferred.
One year of hospitality experience preferred.
First Aid / AED / CPR certification preferred.
Regular and punctual attendance.
Ability to adhere to the property’s grooming standards.
Ability to stand, walk continuously and run as warranted.
Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle all hours and in all weather conditions.
Ability to understand and execute all safety and emergency procedures (e.g., fire, crowd control, inclement weather, bomb threats).
Ability to understand and operate emergency equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, wheelchairs, respirators).
Ability to lift, carry, and store in overhead areas approximately 50 lbs.
Ability to lift and move, in an emergency, an immobilized adult.
Ability to bend, squat, kneel, climb (including stairs and ladders), and reach.
Ability to push and pull approximately 75 lbs.
Ability to work in extreme temperatures.
Ability to utilize communication equipment (e.g., telephones, radios, beepers).
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with guests and other employees.
Ability to interact with guests and employees in a courteous, empathetic, and discreet manner.
Ability to read and write effectively.
Ability to sustain direct contact with the public; must establish a high degree of customer service (smile, eye contact, positive presentation).
Will be required to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
