Job Summary
The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) serves as the primary contact point for participants and their families for an established study designed to develop new diagnostic tools for autoimmune, infectious and post‑infectious neurological conditions, including meningitis and encephalitis.
Responsibilities Under the supervision of Dr. Michael Wilson and Dr. Joseph DeRisi, the CRC will perform independent or general‑direction tasks to execute, manage and coordinate research protocols. Duties include:
Conducting capacity assessment and informed consent procedures in inpatient and outpatient settings.
Medical chart review and data entry.
Collecting specimens from various clinical labs.
Managing and organizing an extensive biobank.
Providing general administrative support.
Interacting with many departments at UCSF and external institutions, including physicians, clinical lab staff and nurses.
Maintaining written and verbal communication essential to the role.
Required Qualifications
High School graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to perform the assigned duties.
Ability to work independently, complete projects in a timely manner, and prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
Attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with subjects, team members, other departments and outside institutions.
Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment while working with a diverse subject population.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in outpatient or inpatient clinical care settings.
Understanding of patient population to create rapport and a relationship, while also giving insight to what is realistic and appropriate for patient participation.
Experience with electronic medical records.
Knowledge of UCSF and departmental policies for dealing with reimbursement, guidelines for research, confidentiality and HIPAA regulations, and patient safety and confidentiality procedures.
Knowledge of medical terminology, research policies and guidelines, guidelines for packing/shipping infectious substances.
Experience with data management in RedCap.
BA/BS in biology, neuroscience, chemistry, public health or any other related science/health field.
Demonstrated interest in neurology or infectious disease.
Experience applying the following regulations and guidelines:

Health Information Privacy Act (HIPAA)
The Protection of Human Research Subjects
CHR regulations for recruitment and consent of research subjects
Environmental Health and Safety Training
