Program Director, Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program
University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) is seeking a Program Director for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program (DMSP) to oversee the structure and daily operations of the program, including curriculum development, student recruitment, accreditation, and resource management.
Responsibilities
Manage daily operation, organization, and evaluation of DMSP curricula.
Ensure effectiveness of clinical affiliates through regular visits and maintain affiliate agreements.
Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate instructors and clinical coordinators, including job descriptions and salary recommendations.
Oversee admissions procedures, assess applicants, make final admission decisions, and maintain student records.
Monitor student progress and disciplinary matters; recommend or dismiss students based on performance.
Maintain and update student lifecycle resources: Student Manual, Master Plan, program schedules, orientations, and session calendars, assigning instructors appropriately.
Secure program resources and administer financial management for the $1.2M program, monitor operating budget, and maintain inventory of books, equipment, and supplies.
Develop marketing strategies, plan program events, and conduct information sessions for prospective students.
Perform periodic review and evaluation of program against NEC and CAAHEP standards; maintain accreditation and coordinate with Provost’s office.
Represent UMBC, maintain communication with sonography professional organizations, attend program directors’ meetings and scientific sessions, and chair Advisory Committee meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree.
Hold appropriate sonography credentials – RDMS, RDCS (or RCS), or RVT (or RVS).
Candidates must be a graduate of a CAAHEP accredited Cardiac, Abdomen‑Extended/OB‑GYN, or Vascular ultrasound program.
Two full‑time clinical years as a registered sonographer in the professional field.
Five years of documented experience in management, supervision, instruction, student guidance, and/or evaluation, including educational theories and techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
Multiple sonography credentials – RDMS, RDCS (or RCS), or RVT (or RVS).
5‑10 years clinical experience as a registered sonographer in the field.
5‑10 years as an instructor, coordinator, manager, or leader in sonography education.
Background check required.
