Vice President, Turnaround & Restructuring
Location: Chicago, IL
Base Pay Range: $250,000–$300,000 per year
The Vice President (VP) of Turnaround & Restructuring plays a critical leadership role in managing complex financial, operational, and strategic challenges for underperforming or distressed organizations. This individual leads client engagements, drives analytical workstreams, and partners closely with senior executives, lenders, investors, and legal advisors to stabilize performance and create sustainable paths to recovery. The VP will serve as a trusted advisor, shaping recommendations and ensuring high‑quality execution across all phases of a restructuring process.
Key Responsibilities
Lead day‑to‑day management of turnaround and restructuring engagements, ensuring strategic alignment, timely delivery, and high‑quality client service.
Oversee teams conducting operational diagnostics, liquidity reviews, and performance assessments.
Direct detailed analyses including 13‑week cash‑flow forecasts, liquidity modeling, financial statement reviews, and scenario analysis.
Evaluate business plans, capital structures, and restructuring alternatives.
Develop and implement turnaround plans, including performance improvement strategies, operational restructuring, and organizational right‑sizing.
Support negotiations with creditors, lenders, investors, and other stakeholders.
Assist in preparing materials for boards, lenders, and legal advisors, including restructuring options, valuation implications, and recovery analyses.
Coordinate across functional teams to ensure transparency, alignment, and swift execution.
Manage sensitive and high‑pressure situations with discretion and professionalism.
Mentor and guide associates and analysts; provide coaching on financial modeling, analytical frameworks, and client communications.
Support practice development activities, including recruiting, training, and knowledge‑building initiatives.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in restructuring, turnaround consulting, investment banking, performance improvement, private equity, or related fields.
Strong command of financial modeling, cash‑flow analysis, liquidity management, and capital structures.
Experience working with distressed businesses, bankruptcy processes (Chapter 11), or out‑of‑court restructuring environments.
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues for executive audiences.
Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple workstreams in fast‑paced, high‑stakes environments.
Strong client relationship management skills and professional presence.
