Role Overview HDR Engineering is looking for a Transmission Line Project Engineer in Chicago, Illinois to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals.
The primary duties of a Transmission Line Project Engineer include, in partnership with the Project Manager (PM), responsibility for technical execution of high‑voltage electrical transmission line projects of any size and complexity on schedule, within budget, and meeting HDR and client quality standards.
Experience with overhead transmission line design and construction from 69 kV through 500 kV is preferred.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead the overall technical direction of projects.
Scope and schedule support to the PM, including work breakdown structure development and implementation, change management, and schedule management.
Budget support to the PM for proposal development, progress assessment, and change management.
Lead multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations.
Thoroughly understand and implement the HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures to deliver a world‑class quality product to the client.
Support scheduling for and/or perform quality reviews for all deliverables, ensuring appropriate reviewers are assigned.
Participate in quality control or project reviews for peers and other project teams.
Coordinate with operations leaders and the PM for resource planning and management.
Work independently as required and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise one or more EITs, CADD/Designers, and administrative staff.
Independently coordinate the work of engineers and the balance of the team throughout the entire project life cycle.
Possibly engage in a mentoring/training relationship with one or more junior engineers or designers.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using PLS‑CADD, structural analysis, project cost estimates, plan and profile preparation, load and design calculations, specifications and drawings, and other engineering documents required for power transmission line projects.
National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) knowledge.
Preference will be given to local candidates.
Previous experience with an engineering consulting firm.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., PE or P.Eng).
Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
Computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit).
