Position Summary
Xcel Energy is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Energy Storage Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of energy storage systems to support our renewable energy projects. This position is viewed as the technical engineer or subject matter expert for the organization in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes for energy storage systems. The role will involve working closely with cross‑functional teams to ensure the successful integration of energy storage solutions into our existing infrastructure.
Essential Responsibilities
- Uses and applies technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to perform activities with complex features such as conflicting design requirements and coordination challenges.
- Supports the development of technical documentation (designs, testing, calculations, reports, standards, etc.) and may assist with procedures requiring broad knowledge of a specialty area.
- Works under the general direction of a higher‑level engineer or supervisor for routine engineering projects, providing ongoing technical support for operations, maintenance, testing, diagnostics, and regulatory activities.
- May lead small‑medium, non‑critical projects or coordinate critical projects (research, design, equipment selection, procurement, installation, commissioning) under the direction of a higher‑level engineer.
- Supports bid/evaluation processes, preparing bid documents and technical evaluations for proposals and partnering with Supply Chain and Legal as appropriate.
- Communicates information in all formats on matters of varying importance and complexity both inter‑organizationally and with outside customers.
- May assign tasks and coordinate work of interns, drafters, technicians, craft personnel, and other team members, providing guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
- Performs budgeting, estimating, forecasting, accounting, and work‑order management to support engineering projects.
Staff Engineer Level (Salary Range: $79,800-$103,666)
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited curriculum (or recognized equivalency).
- 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Demonstrated broad knowledge and proficiency in a specialty area, with knowledge of related specialties and general knowledge of other related disciplines.
- Ability to demonstrate the unique technical skills and core competencies for this engineering level established and documented by the organization.
- EIT/FE (Engineer in Training / Fundamentals of Engineering) strongly preferred.
Senior Engineer Level (Salary Range: $94,600-$126,134)
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited curriculum (or recognized equivalency).
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience with EIT/FE required, or 7+ years of relevant engineering experience without EIT/FE required.
- Ability to demonstrate the unique technical skills and core competencies for this engineering level established and documented by the organization.
- Preferred PE (Professional Engineer) registration may be required depending on business need.
Principal Engineer (Salary Range: $109,300-$152,766)
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited curriculum (or recognized equivalency).
- 9+ years of relevant engineering experience with a PE registration required, or 15+ years of relevant engineering experience without a PE required.
- Ability to demonstrate the unique technical skills and core competencies for this engineering level established and documented by the organization.
