Role Overview
As a Cloud Engineer, you’ll architect, build, and design solutions that integrate public Cloud services. You’ll incorporate Infrastructure as Code techniques to ensure repeatable deployment of resources, provide expertise in Cloud reference architectures, and support software development in a DevOps environment. Excellent troubleshooting skills, staying current with industry trends, and teamwork are essential.
Responsibilities
- Creating/updating cloud environment configurations to establish and support application workloads:
- Azure-focused configuration of subscriptions, resource groups, virtual networks, subnets, load balancers, app services, Azure Batch, virtual machines, resource tagging, billing, policy implementation, and security controls.
- AWS-focused configuration of AWS accounts, IAM users and roles, VPCs, subnets, load balancers, network routes, Transit Gateway, Control Tower, Systems Manager, Config Manager, stack sets, WAF, CloudFront, and Route53.
- Understanding shell scripting and executing commands via the command line.
- Designing and building automation platforms using Infrastructure as Code – preferred skills include CloudFormation, Terraform, PowerShell, and Python.
- Supporting and completing operational requests, communicating level of effort and status to cloud leadership.
- Supporting data calls for resources provisioned within the cloud environment and reporting status of resources.
- Identifying and communicating opportunities to improve agency security posture within cloud environments.
- Collaborating with external development teams to understand cloud workload solution architecture within the agency AWS/Azure environment.
Qualifications
- 5 years experience deploying/configuring application workloads within Microsoft Azure Commercial Cloud or AWS Cloud.
- Demonstrated understanding of infrastructure components (compute, network, storage) with 7 years total hands‑on experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of configuring and supporting application workloads within Azure or AWS Cloud.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Strong understanding of cloud engineering methods, applications, and best practices across cloud service providers.
- Experience assessing, customizing, troubleshooting, optimizing, and maintaining current and emerging technologies and platforms.
- Experience with cloud orchestration tools and continuous delivery processes to deploy and manage cloud infrastructure.
- Proficiency in automating processes with Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Packer, PowerShell, or Python, including use of remote APIs.
- Experience working with containers and container orchestration systems and hardening practices.
- AWS Solutions Architect Associate and/or Azure Administrator Associate certifications or higher.
Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or green card holder who has resided in the U.S. for at least 3 years and the ability to obtain a public trust.
Target salary range $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
