Director of Business Development, Husch Blackwell Husch Blackwell LLP is a full‑service litigation and business law firm with multiple locations across the United States. We are looking for a proven leader to drive revenue growth, enhance brand awareness, and manage our Business Development and Proposals teams throughout the U.S.

Responsibilities

Lead the development, execution, and review of strategic initiatives for our practice groups and lawyers.

Drive revenue generation initiatives including client targeting, market research, RFP responses, and client relationship reviews.

Collaborate with communications, brand, and recognition teams to build visibility and brand awareness.

Oversee strategic key client efforts, setting direction, KPIs, and metrics.

Build, manage, and lead a high‑effectiveness marketing and business‑development team located across the U.S.

Establish and maintain relationships with industry leaders, practice, and management teams.

Elevate matter collection and streamline business‑development knowledge‑management processes for client‑facing materials.

Partner with department leadership to drive cross‑functional projects for increased efficiency and visibility.

Lead implementation of key initiatives, identify cross‑selling opportunities.

Assist in expanding existing client relationships and generating new business.

Ensure consistency in messaging and best practices through staff development.

Share best‑practice insights across industry and practice groups to maximize productivity.

Coach and develop the team, identify developmental needs, and mentor. Provide guidance, set performance standards, and monitor performance.

Identify and develop best practices, establish long‑term objectives, and specify strategies and actions to achieve them.

Position Requirements

4‑year degree in marketing, communications or related field; Master’s preferred.

15+ years of progressive expertise in marketing and business development, preferably leading company‑wide initiatives in a professional‑services firm.

Strong business‑development skills – setting priorities, planning, organization, follow‑through, delegation, negotiation, budgeting and ROI analysis.

Ability to motivate attorneys to engage in business development and collaborate on business‑development plans.

Experience providing high‑level client service at all levels.

Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to write compelling proposals, collateral, research reports and presentation materials.

Forward‑thinking, proven solution‑oriented mindset for complex challenges.

High level of maturity and confidence in interacting with sophisticated internal and external clients.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office; background in business‑development and marketing technology, tools, processes and innovation.

Outstanding interpersonal and relationship‑building skills.

Team‑first approach with a track record of managing and mentoring a diverse, geographically dispersed team.

Dynamic energy, “can‑do” attitude, results‑oriented and client‑service mentality.

Ability to tolerate ambiguity to respond quickly to shifting demands and opportunities.

Compensation & Benefits Employees will receive compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The anticipated salary range is $250 000 to $300 000, dependent on location. The range does not include a discretionary bonus; bonus opportunities are non‑guaranteed and tied to individual and firm performance.
