Position Summary The Department of Surgery at the University of North Carolina is seeking a board eligible/board certified, full‑time academic cardiac surgeon to join our Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. This Open Rank appointment may be fixed term, tenure/tenure track, and/or variable track, with rank and track aligned to the candidate’s experience. The Division houses 10 faculty across adult, congenital, and thoracic cardiac surgery, providing comprehensive care including adult cardiac surgery, cardiac transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support.

Responsibilities

Lead surgical management of heart failure, cardiac transplantation, mechanical circulatory support, aortic and coronary artery surgery, and valvular disease, including surgical and transcatheter approaches.

Teach residents and medical students, contributing to the educational mission of the School of Medicine.

Conduct research that is commensurate with academic rank and support collaborative scientific inquiry.

Demonstrate commitment to teamwork and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Meet Campus Security Authority responsibilities under the Clery Act, reporting compliance and completing annual training.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements MD, Board Certified or Board Eligible Cardiac Surgeon with a minimum of 5 years experience as an academic surgeon.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Team-oriented candidates capable of interacting effectively within and beyond the Division. Experience in clinical outcomes, quality & safety, health services research, education, ethics, or informatics, as well as expertise in heart failure, transplant, or minimally invasive techniques, is strongly encouraged.
