Job Summary
The Phlebotomist / Patient Services Representative II (PSR II) represents the organization to patients receiving routine or diagnostic lab services. This role performs high-quality blood collection, prepares specimens for laboratory testing, and ensures a positive and professional patient experience. The PSR II adheres to established procedures and demonstrates leadership behaviors, accuracy, confidentiality, and process-excellence skills in all specimen collection activities.
Key Responsibilities
Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection for patients of all ages, including pediatric and geriatric.
Explain collection procedures to patients to ensure comfort and build trust.
Verify patient demographics and signatures post-venipuncture to ensure accurate labeling.
Complete forensic and clinical specimen collection and processing duties.
Maintain records and documentation accurately and confidentially.
Promote a safe, clean, and professional environment.
Perform daily activities accurately and on time with minimal supervision.
Travel to multiple patient service centers or in-office locations with minimal notice when coverage is needed.
Support high-volume environments and manage multiple priorities.
Demonstrate superior customer focus, clear communication, and adaptability to change.
Follow all policies including dress code, Health & Safety, and Everyday Excellence Guiding Principles.
Required Experience
Three years of phlebotomy experience, including pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
Minimum 2 years of Patient Service Center experience preferred.
Customer service experience in retail or service settings preferred.
Strong keyboard/data entry skills.
Required Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
Phlebotomy certification preferred (mandatory in CA, NV, WA—but not required in DC).
Required Skills
Exceptional phlebotomy skills across diverse patient populations.
Ability to deliver error-free work in fast-paced environments.
Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.
Preferred Skills
Ability to adapt quickly to changing workloads and coverage needs.
Strong communication skills with patients, peers, and supervisors.
Strong working knowledge of clinical collection processes.
Additional Skills
Flexibility with weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.
Ability to uphold confidentiality and accuracy with patient information.
Strong organizational commitment and a positive, professional demeanor.
