Position Overview
The Director of Digital Content and Storytelling leads the College’s narrative across all platforms, developing and amplifying compelling stories that reflect MDC’s mission, impact, and innovation. This position oversees content strategy from social media to earned media, and from the College magazine to the digital news site, ensuring a dynamic, consistent, and engaging voice that resonates with audiences across all platforms. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.
What you will be doing
- Leads the development, planning, and execution of editorial content across digital platforms, print publications, and media channels
- Oversees social media messaging and strategy to ensure brand consistency, audience engagement and alignment with institutional goals
- Leads the creation and placement of op-eds, thought leadership pieces, and feature stories in local and national media outlets
- Directs the editorial vision and production of the College magazine, monthly newsletters, and other signature publications
- Manages the College’s online news site, including editorial calendar, contributor coordination, and performance analytics
- Monitors analytics to execute strategies that grow reach, engagement, and followers across all digital channels
- Ensures all visual content—writing, photos, videos, graphics—is consistent, meets quality standards and enhances storytelling impact
- Provides editorial feedback to writers crafting feature stories, op-eds, and digital articles
- Collaborates with videographers to shape narrative flow, tone, and messaging in video content
- Works closely with photographers to ensure visual storytelling aligns with brand standards and evokes emotion
- Partners with departments and academic leaders to source and amplify impactful stories across multiple platforms
- Conducts regular reviews and evaluations to assess performance and provide constructive feedback for improvement
- Performs other duties as assigned
What you need to succeed
- Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution and five (5) years’ experience in marketing or related work experience; or Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution and nine (9) years’ experience in marketing or related work experience
- Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
- Proven expertise in developing and executing cross-platform content strategies that elevate brand storytelling
- Exceptional writing, editing, and narrative development skills across formats—print, digital, video, and photo
- Strong ability to guide and mentor writers, videographers, and photographers to ensure cohesive and compelling storytelling
- Deep understanding of digital platforms, audience engagement strategies, and content performance analytics
- Experience placing op-eds and thought leadership pieces in high-impact media outlets
- Skilled in managing editorial calendars, workflows, and multimedia production teams
- Ability to translate complex institutional priorities into accessible, inspiring stories
- High proficiency in visual literacy, upholding quality standards for photography and video used in brand storytelling
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across departments and with senior leadership
- Demonstrated dedication to education, equity, and innovation, with a digital-first approach to communications
- Proven mentoring and team-building skills, including strong ability to provide clear creative direction and helpful feedback
- Ability to meet deadlines and possess extensive experience in leading and managing teams in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work flexible hours that can include weekends and evenings
- Ability to travel to various campus locations as needed
- Ability to work well with students, faculty and staff
