Amazon is looking for a passionate, talented, and inventive Applied Scientist with a strong machine learning background to help build industry-leading technology in generative AI and foundational models. As part of our AI team in Amazon AWS, you will work alongside internationally recognized experts to develop novel algorithms and modeling techniques to advance the state-of-the-art in generative AI. Your work will directly impact millions of our customers in the form of products and services that make use of speech, vision and language technology. You will gain hands on experience with Amazon’s heterogeneous speech, text, image and structured data sources, and large‑scale computing resources to accelerate advances in machine learning and foundation models. State of the role During a typical day you will: research and prototype new techniques, experiment with large data sets, collaborate across disciplines, and communicate findings to both technical and business stakeholders. Your contributions will directly affect Amazon’s next generation of AI services. Basic Qualifications PhD, or Master’s degree and 4+ years of experience in CS, CE, ML or a related field Experience in patents or publications at top‑tier peer‑reviewed conferences or journals Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or a related language Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high‑performance computing Preferred Qualifications Experience using Unix/Linux Professional software development experience Los Angeles County Applicants Job duties for this position include work safely and cooperatively with other employees, supervisors, and staff; adhere to standards of excellence despite stressful conditions; communicate effectively and respectfully with employees, supervisors, and staff to ensure exceptional customer service; and follow all federal, state, and local laws and Company policies. Compensation and Benefits Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
