The 2nd Shift Production Manager is responsible for leading and supervising all Wet side raw material operations and Packing operations during the second shift. This role ensures production goals are consistently met while upholding food safety, product quality, efficiency, and safety standards. The manager will provide direct support to team leaders and floor staff, coach and develop key personnel, enforce company policies, and manage shift documentation and communication. This position requires strong leadership, adaptability, and the ability to make decisions under pressure. All equipment breakdowns and critical operational issues must be promptly reported to Maintenance or escalated to the Senior Production Manager.
Key Responsibilities 1. Production Oversight Monitor the flow of operations on Wet Side lines and Packing lines to ensure alignment with daily production goals. Support team leads with real-time troubleshooting, direction, and labor allocation as conditions shift. Enforce safety standards, GMPs, and food safety protocols consistently across all personnel and processes. 2. Coaching, Development & Accountability Lead by example in professionalism, communication, and problem-solving. Conduct regular check-ins with leads and operators to provide coaching and reinforce expectations. Identify high-performing team members and support their growth into leadership or technical roles. 3. Communication & Collaboration Facilitate pre-shift meetings to communicate daily priorities, safety topics, and shift goals. Maintain open communication with QA, Maintenance, Inventory, and other departments for aligned operations. Participate in daily handoff reports with other shift managers and escalate unresolved issues to the Senior Production Manager. Keep accurate logs of shift events, incidents, and production metrics. 4. Food Safety & Documentation Ensure accurate completion of batch records, production forms, sanitation logs, and quality control checks. Respond to quality deviations or non-conformances and coordinate immediate corrective actions with QA. Maintain awareness of allergen protocols, cross-contamination risks, and traceability documentation. 5. Issue Escalation & Equipment Reporting Immediately report equipment breakdowns or facility concerns to Maintenance. Monitor repeated issues and ensure they are escalated to the Senior Production Manager when unresolved. Follow up on open issues to confirm resolution and prevent recurrence.
Qualifications Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in a food manufacturing or food safety-regulated environment. Proven ability to lead production teams and enforce accountability. Working knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, food safety, and sanitation standards.
