Traffic Engineer
Join our dynamic and expanding transportation team as a
Traffic Engineer , where you will play a key role in delivering innovative solutions for complex transportation challenges. We are seeking a skilled professional with expertise in traffic design and analysis—including work zone traffic control, signing and pavement marking, traffic signal design, ITS design, roadway lighting, and traffic operations analysis and simulation. The ideal candidate does not need to be proficient in all areas, but at least one to two of the areas listed. This position is available in all NC/GA offices: Raleigh, Charlotte, and Atlanta. Hybrid work would be acceptable for the right candidate.
Responsibilities
Develop creative, effective traffic solutions for diverse roadway and multi-modal projects.
Engage in client management and relationship‑building.
Represent the firm through presentations at industry events and conferences.
Develop new areas of expertise and diversify your own talent base.
Support a diverse portfolio of DOT and municipal projects as part of the growing traffic engineering team embedded in our southeast transportation group.
Required Skills & Experience
BS degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
Preferred to have Professional Engineer license, with ability to obtain NC PE within 3 months.
Minimum four years of experience in traffic engineering.
Project or task management experience preferred but not required.
Knowledge of state and municipal policies, standards, specifications, and guidelines desired.
Experience preparing traffic engineering design plans for a state DOT or municipality.
Additional experience in one or more of the following traffic engineering subdisciplines desired:
Preparing traffic management plans and temporary traffic control plans
Traffic signal design, closed‑loop signal system design, and ITS design
Experience preparing signing and pavement marking plans
Traffic analyses using software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM, SIDRA
ITS and lighting design for major roadway projects
Excellent communication, presentation, writing and organizational skills.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Experience using MicroStation, ORD, or Civil3D preferred.
