Part‑Time Dual Enrollment Chemistry Instructor (Pool) San Mateo County Community College District is seeking a Part‑Time Dual Enrollment Chemistry Instructor to teach courses in the Dual Enrollment program on participating high school campuses. The position requires an instructional award and experience teaching chemistry at the community college level.

Duties & Responsibilities

Teach courses in the Dual Enrollment program on participating high school campuses.

Develop and evaluate curricula appropriate to the different learning needs of students and establish student learning outcomes.

Provide a classroom environment that promotes and stimulates learning for every student.

Use and stay abreast of current pedagogies and technologies that are effective in a diverse classroom, and maintain knowledge of state agency requirements and regulations over the program and its courses.

Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours.

Collaborate with other program faculty and staff to use assessment techniques to maximize instruction effectiveness and student success.

Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs.

Knowledge & Experience

Issues pertaining to training and employment in the applicable discipline area.

Experience or familiarity with the development of student learning outcomes and assessment, as well as program review.

Understanding and commitment to the role and purpose of the community college, mission and values.

Successful teaching experience or preparation to teach the full range of applicable discipline college courses.

Experience in computer‑based applications and modern teaching technologies.

Skills & Abilities

Evidence of outstanding teaching ability.

Competence in teaching both theoretical concepts and practical skills.

Commitment to and proficiency in creating curricula and methods that reflect department standards and practices.

Use instructional methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration and reflect cultural sensitivity and interdisciplinary approaches.

Motivation of students from diverse backgrounds, including socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+.

Engagement of students actively in studies, encouraging critical thinking and independent learning.

Job Requirements

Master's in chemistry or Bachelor's in chemistry or biochemistry plus a Master's in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology or geochemistry or equivalent.

Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
