The Assistant Controller will help oversee accounting operations, job cost reporting, purchasing oversight, and financial support functions critical to construction project success. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily accounting operations and purchasing activities, including job cost coding, vendor management, A/P, A/R, payroll, and general ledger maintenance
Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, WIP schedules, and financial statements
Ensure compliance with GAAP and construction industry accounting standards
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and variance analysis for projects
Support annual audits and bonding requirements by preparing schedules and documentation
Monitor and strengthen internal controls, improving purchasing workflows and accounting procedures
Collaborate on financial systems enhancements and process improvement initiatives
Perform special projects and financial analysis as requested by the Controller or CFO
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Strong understanding of construction job costing, WIP reporting, and retention billing
Experience with construction accounting software
Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities
Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage deadlines in a project-driven environment
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with field and office teams
