Position Summary The Junior Engineer & Planning Coordinator plays a dual role in supporting engineering activities and coordinating production schedules to meet Estimated Ship Dates (ESD). This position combines technical knowledge with operational planning, ensuring accurate product documentation, efficient resource allocation, and timely order fulfillment. The role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret engineering specifications while managing scheduling and inventory processes.
Position Responsibilities ESD Scheduling
Calculate processing time required for each order; estimate time needed for production, QC checks, and packing to set realistic ship dates
Coordinate production activities to ensure products are completed and ready by the ESD
Verify availability of materials and components to meet the production schedule
Develop contingency plans for potential delays, including re‑scheduling due to unplanned changes in ship dates from Italy
Maintain the ESD spreadsheet and ensure tentative dates are minimized
Communicate ESD updates to the internal team
Release of Sales Orders and Work Orders
Release all production orders depending on the scheduled (weeks)
Monitor open and closed orders and make necessary changes
Release the samples and monitor them
Perform any reversal of a work order that should not have been closed
Monitor and Analyze Inventory; Turnover, Waste
Collect and analyze inventory data to track turnover and waste
Apply basic lean principles to recommend improvements for inventory efficiency
Service Level and Lead Time Analysis
Monitor service levels and production lead times to ensure customer requirements are met
Use forecasting tools to identify potential delays and support reliability improvements
Performance Metrics and Reporting
Track KPIs for supply chain performance, including on‑time shipments
Establish and support data analysis initiatives using tools like Excel or basic Six Sigma concepts
Process Optimization
Participate in continuous improvement projects using Lean and Kaizen methodologies
Help identify opportunities to reduce waste and improve warehouse and production efficiency
BOM Management & Documentation
Ensure BOMs reflect up‑to‑date design specifications, revisions, and part substitutions
Enter and manage BOM data in the company’s ERP system (SAP)
Support product data accuracy by maintaining part numbers, descriptions, and materials lists
Assist with cost analysis by ensuring accurate component pricing and quantities are reflected in BOMs
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Work with engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and quality teams to validate and update BOMs
Technical Interpretation & Problem‑Solving
Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications for BOM accuracy
Identify and resolve BOM‑related discrepancies or issues
Ad Hoc & Cross‑Functional Support Additional tasks and support activities are performed in collaboration with other departments as needed.
Qualifications Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or related field
0–2 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or product development environment (internships accepted)
Experience with BOM creation, product documentation, or ERP systems is a plus
Technical Skills
Basic understanding of BOM structure, part numbering systems, and product lifecycle management
Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD); for reference and review purposes
Comfortable reading spec sheets and engineering documentation
Experience or exposure to ERP systems; SAP preferred
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other documentation tools
Analytical & Organizational Abilities
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation
Solid problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills related to BOM and product data
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
Communication & Teamwork
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams (engineering, purchasing, production, etc.)
Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic engineering environment
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and education, as this role is open to a range of skill levels
