What You Will Be Doing This exciting position is based in the Anchorage Field Office under the direct guidance of the Chief of Planning. The planner works with department planners, engineers, and other section leads as well as communities to address transportation and infrastructure needs in the State. Duties include conducting complex planning studies, compiling project status reports and white papers, and assisting in the preparation and revision of Alaska’s multi‑year surface transportation, aviation, and ports and harbors improvement programs for a specific DOT&PF Central Region planning sub‑area (Kenai Peninsula).

Working Environment You Can Expect This position is located in Anchorage at the Central Region Headquarters building by Lake Hood. The office is primarily an office job with occasional field work or site visits.

– Knowledge of functions, principles, methods, and techniques of public planning.
Partnering
– Ability to develop networks and build alliances across boundaries.
Project Management
– Knowledge of principles for developing, scheduling, coordinating, and managing projects.
Planning and Evaluating
– Ability to organize work, set priorities, determine resource requirements, and evaluate outcomes.
Technical Credibility
– Understanding and applying principles, procedures, and regulations related to specialized expertise.
Equivalent To Those Typically Gained By Post‑secondary education in urban or regional planning, urban design, geography, community development, transportation planning, environmental and natural resources planning, economic planning, or related fields; AND/OR progressively responsible experience in environmental, transportation, or community development; architecture; civil engineering; landscape architecture; historic preservation; housing administration; grant administration; accounting; business management; or research.
