Job Summary Provides empathetic pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding the effective use of medications and drug interaction awareness. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcome services. Ensures prescribed medications are compounded, reviewed, dispensed, and verified accurately according to regulatory guidelines and company policies and procedures. Manages an efficient pharmacy workflow, improves pharmacy financials, manages inventory, and enhances patient experience. Manages pharmacy staff performance and engagement, ensuring professional development through training, coaching, and performance management initiatives.
Job Responsibilities Patient Experience
Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services, resolving issues in a timely manner and answering questions to ensure a positive experience.
Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members, including courteous interactions and proactive service to elevate the patient experience.
Anticipates patient needs, proactively offers services, and promotes healthcare services such as medication management, drug therapy reviews, clinical or wellness services.
Participates in community events as requested by leadership.
Operations
Counsel patients on medication usage, side effects, contraindications, privacy, generics and OTC products, and refer to medical providers as needed.
Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management.
Accurately dispenses prescribed medications and ensures compliance with regulations and company standards.
Establishes efficient pharmacy workflow, oversees staff scheduling, assigns roles, and solicits team suggestions.
Ensures compliance with Good Faith Dispensing policy and controlled substance laws.
Collaborates with the Store Manager to define and develop new strategic business opportunities.
Maintains knowledge of pharmacy systems, supports staff and patients with IT, and finds opportunities to improve productivity.
Processes insurance claims accurately, resolves issues, and follows up with providers and auditors.
Performs clinical and wellness services such as immunizations and diagnostic testing.
Manages pharmacy maintenance, housekeeping, repairs, new equipment, and layout changes.
Prepares and submits state and federal required documentation (operating statements, performance reports, supervision notes).
People & Performance Management
Collaborates on staff hiring, discipline, termination, and employment law compliance.
Establishes expectations, promotes teamwork, and recognizes improvements through rewards programs.
Oversees training and formal performance reviews.
Identifies high‑potential team members and collaborates on career progression.
Addresses employee relations concerns and maintains morale.
Training & Personal Development
Maintains required licensing, credentialing, and certification.
Enhances knowledge through pharmacy journals, Walgreens publications, and communications.
Completes education credits and training modules as required.
Seeks professional development via feedback and mentorship.
Communications
Supports the Store Manager by communicating corporate health and wellness services to pharmacy staff.
Business Performance Management
Analyzes performance data including financials, customer service, and inventory, identifying trends and improvement opportunities.
Manages pharmacy asset protection and inventory activities.
Business Planning
Develops relationships with the local medical community and promotes the pharmacy business.
Supports the Store Manager in expanding health and wellness awareness in the community.
Basic Qualifications
BS in Pharmacy or Pharm D Degree from an accredited institution.
Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district.
Certified Immunizer or willingness to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
Minimum of 1 year pharmacy experience in dispensing, recordkeeping, compliance, operations, software, and insurance billing.
Strong knowledge of controlled substance laws and prescription dispensing activities.
Leadership rating of at least 3.0 on the last performance review (Internal candidates only) and no disciplinary actions in the last 12 months.
Preferred Qualifications
Supervisory experience planning, organizing, and directing pharmacy staff.
Minimum of 6 months pharmacy experience with Walgreens.
Leadership rating of 3.7 or above on the last performance review (Internal candidates only).
