This business unit focuses on electronic assemblies, systems and software for the U.S. military, including advanced instrumentation and control systems used in naval propulsion systems and other Navy subsystems.
Opportunity: Mechanical Engineering Manager We are looking for a motivated Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead a team of talented engineers. The position reports to the Director of Engineering and is responsible for the mechanical design, development, shock and vibration qualification of air-cooled and conduction-cooled 6U VPX circuit cards, as well as very large conduction and natural convection cooled electronic cabinets. The ideal candidate blends technical expertise with people‑savvy leadership and the ability to continue developing the overall strength of the department.
Salary Information:
$145,000 - $160,000
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership to the Mechanical Engineering Department and Design & Drafting Department.
Oversee department performance evaluations, promotions and compensation.
Assign Mechanical Engineering personnel to projects and tasks as required, managing performance to meet project goals, budgets and schedules.
Work with Mechanical Engineers to develop new concepts and perform technical reviews.
Directly serve as Project Engineer on certain projects as appropriate.
Represent Peerless at reviews and other meetings with customers.
Provide general Mechanical Engineering support for all Peerless activities.
Provide estimates of labor and period of performance for Mechanical Engineering efforts in support of proposals.
Provide status reports on a regular basis to the Director of Engineering.
Maintain staffing levels and personnel training to meet anticipated demands of the department.
Manage the activities of the Design & Drafting group through the D&D Supervisor.
Evaluate and deploy tools to assist in efficient mechanical design in a continuous improvement mindset.
Qualifications
Extensive competence in 3D solid modelling and 2D drawing generation; experience with GDT is strongly desired.
Knowledge of shock and vibration resistance and thermal management of electronics in extreme environments is strongly desired.
Knowledge of cutting‑edge thermal management technology for military electronics is strongly desired.
Ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet technical, schedule, and budgetary constraints.
Familiarity with structural FEA and thermal CFD analysis; hands‑on skills are strongly desired.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work well in multi‑disciplinary teams.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and ability to work well with assemblers and other manufacturing personnel.
Ability to interface with and provide technical support to subcontractors, suppliers, and customers.
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required; Master’s Degree preferred.
A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in a design engineering environment, preferably in the field of military electronics or naval systems.
Several years of experience in engineering management strongly desired.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
