ESOL Program Assistant – English/Spanish Bilingual Required
Center for Family Life in Sunset Park – Full‑time
The Center for Family Life is seeking a full‑time non‑exempt Program Assistant to support the English as a Second Language (ESL) Project. The role involves providing administrative support, assisting students, and ensuring accurate data and documentation across the program.
Program & Student Support
Conduct outreach activities.
Facilitate intake group sessions and revise enrollment for each student; update each student’s file with signed documents, test scores, and class level, and prepare sign‑in sheets.
Maintain updated student files, test scores, and placement information.
Follow up with students regarding attendance and support their program completion.
Assist students with accessing community resources (food pantries, legal referrals, housing support).
Support students with public benefit applications (SNAP, IDNYC, health insurance) and basic forms.
Connect students to case management or social services as needed.
Provide guidance on low‑cost or free services (adult education, immigration support, testing centers).
Prepare class materials, create and update orientation slides, and plan classroom setups.
Data & Waitlist Management
Maintain the testing calendar.
Collect and organize attendance, testing results, instructional hours, and benchmark data.
Enter all required student information into online systems accurately and on time.
Monitor and manage waitlists, conduct outreach when openings become available, and update NYC RISE.
Team Collaboration
Work closely with the Program Coordinator and ESL teachers to maintain required statistics and reporting.
Assist staff with class logistics and student communication.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
Associate's degree or higher, preferred.
Bilingual English/Spanish required.
Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.
Strong time‑management skills, including demonstrated capacity to meet strict deadlines.
High level of organization, attention to detail, and follow‑through.
Dependable, punctual, and able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to work with a diverse population.
At least two years of experience in a similar setting, strongly preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel (including spreadsheets and tables).
Ability to work independently and as part of a team; willingness to take initiative and assume other responsibilities.
Availability to work some evening hours required.
Salary Range: $43,000 to $45,000 per year.
