The Engineering & Technology Operations Division has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Civil CADD Technician (Civil Engineering Specialist, Senior) in the Technical Resources Unit. The Technical Resources Unit is responsible for collecting, preparing, updating and maintaining all drawings of hydroelectric projects and high voltage substations to ensure drawings used by the City are accurate and timely to avoid project delays and work hazards.
As the Senior Civil Engineering Specialist in this unit, you will provide technical resources to engineering groups in the form of CADD support; creation of base maps, 3D modeling, construction design drawings, as‑builts and drawing records management. You will act as the lead controller for the document archive management system, being responsible for ensuring SCL document standards being met for documents checked into the repositories. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge in Civil Engineering drafting, of surveying principles and document management.
This position will report to the Technical Resources Supervisor.
Here is more about what you’ll be doing:
Perform complex projects to support engineers in electrical, structural, mechanical and civil engineering disciplines
Software/hardware management.
Provide substantial support toward management of the Accurent Meridian Document Management System
Provide Quality Control of Documents that are checked in and out of Meridian Document Management System
Act as the Lead Controller for Meridian Electronic Document Management System for archiving, organizing, and managing digital documents
Coordinate design work and related matters with project engineers, supervisors and consultants
Provide CAD assistance and training to Associate and Assistant specialists
Conduct site reconnaissance for scoping projects and quality control measures
Supervise and train assistant and associate specialists
Create and maintain templates, settings and standards for Civil 3D and AutoCAD, develop efficiency tools for standardization
Provide support for the rollout of AutoCAD software for the engineering staff
Maintain CAD to GIS integration of data
Work within established standards and revise standards when necessary
Travel to remote sites to support projects and collect as‑built information
In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:
Requires four years’ civil engineering experience, and an Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or two years of college level coursework in engineering and construction technology (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
Work Environment/Physical Demands
Most work is performed in a normal City work/office environment
Field assignments entail exposure to all types of weather, traffic, hazardous/toxic substances and work in or near construction sites
May be required to lift over 50 pounds
May be required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time
Overnight travel may be required
License, Certification and Other Requirements
Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
Desired Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of technical engineering principles including CADD and electronic drawing management
Knowledge of Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) in general, and Meridian software application
Software expertise in Autodesk Civil 3D, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Revit, Map 3D and ESRI ArcGIS
Knowledge of surveying principles and experience with Civil engineering design and drafting
Knowledge in multiple engineering disciplines
Experience creating construction documents and plan sets utilizing AutoCAD
Experience with and recognition of values associated with excellent customer service
Good interpersonal, technical writing and oral communication skills

The full salary range for this position is $60.61 to $67.91 per hour.
