Responsibilities
Assess and develop long‑term, strategic goals for production databases with data owners and department managers.
Manage installation, configuration and administration of database management systems for clustered and non‑clustered environments.
Design and implement systems, policies and procedures for data backup/archiving and disaster recovery.
Provide 24/7 support for production‑related issues.
Collaborate with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards and quality assurance policies.
Work with system engineering to optimize hardware and software configurations.
Perform tuning for database optimization and review preliminary designs, data analysis and database creation.
Keep staff current on upcoming enhancements, guiding appropriate usage.
Create, troubleshoot and maintain SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages.
Ensure all requests meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Monitor database space, file distribution, response time and other parameters; use tools to identify and correct gaps.
Install, patch and maintain database software.
Document system configurations and maintenance procedures.
Research and recommend database products, services, protocols and standards to support procurement and development.
Manage access requests for personnel changes.
Meet regularly with IT and business leadership to align team activities with business objectives.
Provide technical assistance to users and resolve application and database problems via help desk support.
Escalate critical issues to leadership for timely decision‑making.
Produce documentation for PCI compliance, access management, database hardening and SQL configuration standards.
Supervise, select, train, develop, coach and manage performance of database team.
Direct a geographically distributed team of database administrators at varying skill levels.
Allocate staff assignments according to business priorities.
Drive performance evaluation, skill and competency growth, and career development.
Promote customer‑service attitude and accountability within the team.
Attract and retain quality personnel; develop them into a cohesive team.
Engage vendors to ensure delivery of service levels of key business functions.
Actively manage vendor relationships to optimize technology expense.
Hold vendors accountable for delivery of service and review invoices for reconciliation and forecasting.
Partner with IT leadership for cost estimates on key initiatives.
Participate in on‑call rotation.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Preferred Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience and education.
Three (3) or more years of experience in IT management and direct staff management.
Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services, Data Warehousing, SAN technology, ETL tools and DB2.
Experience with MS SQL Server 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022, Windows Server and Transact‑SQL.
Experience with Windows Server, RedHat Linux, PowerShell is preferred.
Excellent knowledge of system tables, stored procedures, Microsoft SQL troubleshooting and performance optimization.
Experience administering SQL Server in a clustered environment.
