The Manager Database Administration is responsible for the delivery of operational excellence and business value from the database infrastructure deployed across the enterprise. Span of control for this job includes management of database administrators, vendors, and business partnerships company wide. The Manager Database Administration must ensure the creation and maintenance of standards, procedures, and methodologies for effective operation, access, control, backup, and recovery of all database systems. Assess and develop long-term, strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with data owners and department managers Manage the installation, configuration and administration of database management systems and tools for clustered and non-clustered environments Design and implement systems, policies and procedures for data backup/archiving and disaster recovery to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets Provide support for production-related issues (24x7) Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures Work with system engineering team to develop optimal hardware and software configurations Perform tuning to ensure database optimization, review preliminary database designs, data analysis, and creation of new databases as needed Optimize the use of the databases across the organization by staying current on upcoming enhancements to functionality and guiding staff in the appropriate use of the existing functionality Ensure all requests are completed according to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) Use monitoring, reporting and escalation tools to identify and correct gaps in services. Provide daily monitoring of database space, file distribution, response time, utilization and other parameters to ensure that all systems are running at peak Install, patch and maintain database software Ensure the preparation and maintenance of system documentation detailing the configuration of deployed solutions Conduct research and make recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts Manage access requests relating to new hires, terminating employees, and traveling employees Meet regularly with IT and business leadership to ensure team activities are aligned with current business objectives Work with help desk to provide technical assistance to users and troubleshoot and resolve application and database related problems Escalate important issues to business and IT leadership so that decisions can be made promptly Produce database documentation for PCI compliance, Access Management, Database Hardening and Standards for SQL Install Configuration. Supervise, select, train, develop, coach, counsel and manage performance of database team Provide directions to a team of database administrators of varying skills across multiple geographies Effectively balance staff assignments according to business priorities Ensure growth and development of staff through performance evaluation, skill and competency growth, performance goals and career development Drive accountability and an attitude of customer service into the team Attract and retain quality people to the organization and develop these individuals into a cohesive team Call upon vendors as needed to ensure delivery of service levels of all key business functions Actively manage vendor relationships to optimize technology expense Hold vendors accountable for delivery of service Review and reconcile vendor invoices; provide input to IT senior leadership for monthly reconciliation and forecasting Partner with IT leadership to provide cost estimates in support of key initiatives Manage and participate in on-call rotation Other duties as assigned What’s necessary to do the job?
Preferred bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent combination or experience and education Three (3) plus years of experience in IT management and direct staff management Experience in the following technologies: SQL Server Reporting Services, Data Warehousing, SAN technology, ETL tools, DB2 Experience with some or all: MS SQL Server 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022 Windows Server, Transact-SQL. Experience with some or all preferred: Windows server, RedHat Linux, Power shell Excellent knowledge of system tables and system stored procedures Excellent knowledge of Microsoft SQL troubleshooting and performance optimization Experience administering SQL Server in a clustered environment HIPAA & Security Requirements
