American Association of Community Theatre
President and Chief Executive Officer
American Association of Community Theatre, Tampa, Florida, us, 33646
Overview
The Tampa Theatre seeks suggestions and expressions of interest in the position of President & Chief Executive Officer for the Theatre.
The Tampa Theatre is an atmospheric movie palace (1,238 seats) designed by renowned architect John Eberson in 1926. It is generally regarded as the best--and most intact—example of Eberson’s atmospheric style remaining today. In 2024, Tampa Theatre won the Outstanding Historic Theatre Award from the League of Historic American Theatres. John Bell is retiring this spring after forty years of high achievement. During this long and successful tenure, John increased the annual operating budget from $300,000 to nearly $5 million, raised tens of millions of dollars to support significant preservation and capital projects, revamped its programming to include a mix of first-run and classic films, supplemented by concerts, a robust education program, and special events. Today the Theatre hosts more than 1,000 shows a year.
As the Theatre approaches its 100th anniversary, a $30 million capital campaign is underway.
Opportunity & Expectations We wish to find a person with senior leadership experience with an historic theatre or performing arts venue with capital campaign experience and the emotional intelligence to follow a leader of long tenure.
