Transportation Engineering Project Manager

Base pay range $120,000.00/yr - $175,000.00/yr
Our client, a rapidly growing multidisciplinary civil engineering and consulting firm with nearly 80 years of industry leadership, is seeking a Transportation Engineering Project Manager to lead and manage roadway and transportation projects across the Carolinas.
This individual will be responsible for managing transportation engineering teams, overseeing roadway design projects, maintaining client relationships, and driving project delivery. The position offers the opportunity to lead high-profile infrastructure projects within a well-established, values-driven organization.
You will lead technical teams on NCDOT, SCDOT, VDOT, and municipal roadway projects including geometric design, pavement design, corridor improvements, and roadway reconstruction. The role reports directly to the top leadership team with high visibility across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage transportation engineering teams including project engineers, designers, and CAD technicians
Oversee roadway design for NCDOT, SCDOT, and municipal projects
Manage geometric design and pavement design
Maintain and strengthen relationships with DOT clients, municipalities, and stakeholders
Drive business development efforts to expand the transportation engineering client base
Ensure quality control, budget management, and timely project delivery
Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including environmental, survey, and geotechnical
Monitor project performance, profitability, and resource allocation across transportation projects
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
Active PE license in North Carolina (or demonstrated path to licensure within 12 months)
7+ years of experience in transportation engineering and project management
Strong technical expertise in roadway design, geometric design, and NCDOT/SCDOT standards
Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), and AutoCAD Civil 3D
Familiarity with North and South Carolina DOT processes, standards, and regulations
Strong project management and client relationship experience
