Job Description Summary
As a Lead Engineer in Inspection Engineering you will develop and deliver inspection tools used for nondestructive examination (NDE) of both Boiling Water Reactors (BWR) and Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR) for GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) customers worldwide. The role focuses on design, development, and testing of new products and technology, especially motion‑control solutions, to satisfy customer needs and overcome complex technical challenges.
Roles and Responsibilities
Execute the design and development of specialty tooling and equipment using sound engineering principles and adhering to engineering standards, practices, procedures, and product requirements.
Develop robotic inspection tooling of medium to high complexity through Mechanical, Electrical, Hardware, Software programming, and Motion Control design.
Proactively communicate and deliver assignments on time.
Identify and mitigate technical risk.
Communicate technical detail to fabricators and technicians through the generation of fabrication drawings, electrical diagrams, specifications, and direct communication.
Generate operational instructions for newly developed tools and equipment.
Provide feedback and technical input during design reviews and verifications, contributing to team success.
Respond to emergent issues for Field Services teams and customers as required.
Interface with a broad, multidisciplinary team.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college.
At least 4 years of electrical and/or controls design experience.
Eligibility Requirements
Preferred work location is GVH Headquarters, Wilmington, NC, but highly qualified remote candidates will be considered.
Ability to obtain commercial nuclear site entry.
Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% (30% if remote) domestically and internationally to GE Vernova locations, vendors, and customer sites as necessary.
Position restricted to U.S. persons due to access to U.S. export‑controlled technology. Proof of U.S. person status must be provided prior to employment.
Desired Characteristics
Proficient in 3D CAD design and solid computer skills.
Deep understanding of electronics, electrical hardware, software, and motion control principles.
Experience selecting, using, and designing motion control components suitable for mechatronic devices.
Experience developing equipment within the nuclear services sector, especially inspections during maintenance outages at BWR and PWR plants.
Ability to troubleshoot and implement proper changes for malfunctioning equipment.
Ability to assess technical risk and devise suitable mitigations.
Familiarity with LEAN tools and principles.
