REQUIREMENT
Position:
Medical Coder II Location: 100% Remote Duration: Long-Term
We are seeking a skilled
Medical Coder II
to support accurate and compliant coding for a variety of outpatient and specialty medical services. This role requires strong attention to detail, clear communication with providers, and the ability to meet productivity and accuracy standards.
Qualifications Education (must meet ONE of the following): • Associate’s degree or higher in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a biological science
OR • University certificate in medical coding
OR • 30+ semester hours of college coursework including subjects like anatomy/physiology, medical terminology, health information management, or pharmacology
OR • Completion of an AAPC or AHIMA coding prep course
OR • Completion of advanced medical training (beyond apprentice level) as a medical technician, hospital corpsman, or similar military medical role
Certifications Candidate must hold: •
ONE
professional coding certification:
CPC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS-P •
AND ONE
institutional coding certification:
COC, RHIT, RHIA, or CCS • AND ONE E&M certification:
CEMC or CEMA
Key Responsibilities • Assign accurate E&M, ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes—along with modifiers—based on medical record documentation. • Code a variety of outpatient encounters, including day surgery, anesthesia, emergency department, observation, and specialty visits. • Review documentation and resolve any issues, such as unclear or inconsistent information. • Communicate with providers to clarify documentation and support accurate coding. • Provide basic education and feedback to providers on documentation needs. • Serve as a resource for coding questions and guidance. • Work with auditors, trainers, and compliance teams to support coding accuracy. • Use MHS systems to access patient records and support coding at other facilities, when assigned. • Meet required accuracy and productivity standards.
