About the Role The Special Projects Group of KPFF is growing and looking for an ambitious, initiative‑driven Structural Engineer to strengthen our dynamic team in Seattle, WA. As a key member of our team, you will use your existing expertise in waterfront infrastructure and dive deep into design, project management, and client service, surrounded by an unmatched support system that will amplify your capabilities and help you become a true consulting expert.
Responsibilities Structural Design and Development:
Apply engineering expertise to diverse projects, collaborating with teams to devise innovative solutions in areas such as pile design, bulkhead walls, prestressed concrete, and seismic design for port developments, marine engineering, ferry and cruise terminals, shipyards, fish & wildlife facilities, marinas, and floating structures.
Contribute to projects involving waterfront infrastructure and industrial developments, leveraging your skills to drive successful outcomes.
Assess risks and develop mitigation strategies to contribute to project success.
Ensure regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle, including understanding permits and requirements.
Identify and overcome challenges through innovative problem‑solving approaches, using both traditional and modern engineering techniques.
Project Leadership:
Manage project tasks, ensuring efficient coordination of timelines, budgets, and resources.
Conduct site visits and inspections as necessary to ensure compliance with requirements and industry standards.
Mentor team members to support their professional growth and development.
Client Engagement And Exceptional Service:
Foster strong client relationships by actively listening to client needs, providing clear communication, and delivering customized solutions.
Serve as a trusted advisor, offering expert guidance and proactive support throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
Minimum of 8 years of structural design experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (with a structural emphasis).
MS in Civil Engineering preferred.
SE required.
Experience in concrete, steel, timber design.
Experience in pile design and bulkhead walls.
Experience in prestressed concrete and seismic design.
Knowledge of ASCE 61‑14, AASHTO, IBC, ASCE‑7, AISC, ACI, and NDS.
Proficiency in SAP2000, L‑Pile, MS Excel, and VBA preferred.
Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proven capability to work dynamically in a collaborative environment.
Enthusiasm for developing design and project management skills.
Commitment to delivering exceptional client service and exceeding expectations.
Physical Demands And Work Environment
Primarily conducted in a standard office setting with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table.
Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
Occasional field inspections involving walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.
Travel to project sites or client meetings, which may involve driving or flying.

Compensation The base salary for this role is competitive and will be determined based on the candidate’s experience, education, and skills. The expected range for a qualified candidate with 8+ years of experience is $120,000–$150,000. Additionally, we offer performance‑based bonuses to recognize and reward outstanding contributions in each reporting center.
