We are seeking a
Recovery Specialist
to work with individuals and strengthen their capacity to engage in personal recovery. The recovery specialist will foster a trauma‑informed approach and collaborate closely with clients, case managers, and community resources.
Position Details
Job Title: Recovery Specialist
Program: STAR expansion
Location: 40 Christopher Way, Eatontown, NJ
Position Type: Full Time
Salary: $35,000.00
Responsibilities
Attend the three (3) day DMHAS State‑mandated training that delineates peer role functions, competencies, responsibilities and includes an orientation to DMHAS multiple treatment initiatives.
In collaboration with the individual, develop a Recovery Plan that includes culturally competent services, measurable objectives, strengths, goals, barriers, and progress monitoring.
Educate clients on how to navigate treatment, social services, and recovery support systems.
Support individuals through stages of change to encourage recovery.
Work collaboratively with the Case Manager to ensure engagement in services for up to one year.
Be a positive role model by sharing experiential knowledge, hope, and skills.
Reinforce, guide, and affirm that recovery is possible.
Assist individuals participating in STAR to obtain skills and resources needed to initiate and maintain recovery.
Enhance identification and participation in the recovery community.
Advocate for appropriate and effective community treatment and recovery.
Empower individuals to make self‑determined and self‑directed choices about their recovery pathway.
Provide support with face‑to‑face sessions and/or telephone support based on individual’s personal choice; maintain follow‑up one year after starting the STAR program.
Competencies
Proficient communication – written and verbal.
Demonstrates empathy and compassion.
Knowledge of addictions preferred.
Qualifications
Education – High School Diploma or equivalency required; must provide recovery support and peer coaching to program participants.
License – Valid NJ Driver's License in good standing.
Experience – At least 2 years guiding principles of recovery; provides recovery support and peer coaching to participants.
