Purpose A team of data scientists with a unique blend of business, scientific, and machine learning expertise seeks to unleash the full potential of AbbVie’s data assets by bringing technology and insights to decision‑making via fit‑for‑purpose data analytics solutions. The role broadens the scope and impact of analytics and data science by exploring new opportunities to transform clinical development and R&D, and collaborates with stakeholders to outline problems, develop solutions, and deliver products with a continuous innovation mindset.
Responsibilities
Connect with cross‑functional teams as an analytics consultant, anticipating and identifying issues that could affect timelines or quality, and developing options and solutions.
Lead and help establish design principles and standards to ensure analytical work product consistency across projects and optimize user experience.
Develop prototypes, test methods, and algorithms using statistical methods, ML, and AI to drive innovative analytical solutions and create insights.
Explore and apply advanced NLP and LLM approaches to extract, synthesize, and contextualize insights from unstructured clinical and operational data sources.
Enable data‑driven insights to support the clinical development continuum, including precision medicine.
Ensure adherence to federal regulations, GCP, ICH guidelines, AbbVie SOPs, and functional quality standards.
Identify business needs and support the creation of standard KPIs, reports, and statistical analyses.
Coach and mentor junior team members.
Work with cross‑functional teams to strategize analytics that evaluate clinical trial progress and facilitate discussions around emerging risks, applying machine learning techniques to validate assumptions and predict future behavior.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in statistics, analytics, bioinformatics, data science, or an equivalent field; master’s degree preferred.
3‑5 years of analytics‑related experience in clinical research with demonstrated high‑level analytics and leadership competencies.
Advanced proficiency in R, Python, or other statistical packages; intermediate knowledge of statistical and data mining techniques.
Expert proficiency with visualization tools such as Spotfire, Tableau, or equivalent.
Proven expertise with Machine Learning and advanced analytics techniques.
Effective communication skills; ability to explain analytical and technical concepts in layman’s terms.
Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
History of successful execution in a fast‑paced environment and managing multiple priorities.
Experience with cloud computing environments (AWS, Azure, etc.) preferred.
Hands‑on experience applying NLP and/or LLMs to extract insights from unstructured data preferred.
Additional Information Hybrid opportunity: onsite 3 x/week in Lake County, IL.
Compensation range: base pay comparable to industry standards; benefits include paid time off (vacation, holidays, sick), medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k), short‑term and long‑term incentive programs.
